passing through the mouth of Parnaiba’s river to Sào Luis.
The transfer is by boat and jeep, and if you want there
will be some tracks by horse or trekking, through the one of the most particular country all around the world.
In the country of Maranhao, in the northern Brazil,
an ocean of dunes which occupies 70 km of the coast,
creeps 50 km in the interior: this landscape is not subjected
to any other kind of comparisons.
The national park who takes his name, is extended for 155.000 km
and it is an ecological heaven made by dunes, rivers,
lakes and mangue’s plantations.
This area constitutes an unique geologic phenomenon, made up through the millenniums by the action of natural events.
His peculiarity is to be a wide desert full of water!
From the height, the area reveals astonishing landscapes, made by several blue and green lagoons which, in the monsoon’s period, contrast with the white dunes which could reach 40 metres of height.
Famous for the incredible beauty, Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Bonita: it is a duty to plunge into them for the unforgivable sensation made by the freshes waters.
You must never forget to visit the villages of Caburè, Atins and Mandacarù because from these places you will have an uncompared view.
Close to the sea you could sight sea’s turtles, while migrator’s birds are looking for repair in the wider lagoons.
To visit these places the monsoon’s period is the better time, from December to July, when lagoons are full of water and warmless.
