Since the beginning of 80's Jericoacoara was a small fishermen's village close to the sea. They settled on this headland at the end of XVII century, surrounded by dunes, really far from the rest of the world.
Defined by the Washington Post (15/3/1987) the most beautiful brazilian beach, and one of the 10 all around the world, in 1984 was elected Environmental Protected Area.
Besides wonderful landscapes, ocean, dunes of white sand, palms, oasis and fresh-water's lakes, one of the reason of the Protected Area was to control the development of the village, in order to stop or limitate the expansion of it.
In 2002, with the creation of the National Park
of Jericoacoara, restrictions became more austere.
In the National Park (200 kmq) is forbidden
the construction of streets, hunting or fishing,
or any type of pollution.
Climate is warm and dry almost all the day
of the year with temperatures from 26 to 35° Celsius.
The rainy season is concentrated in March, April and May,
but from June to February sun and wind characterise all of the days,
offering perfect conditions of wind and wave for windsurf and kitesurf lovers.

Jericoacoara ( also called Jeri ) is situated in the country of Cearà, 285 km far from Fortaleza and it takes almost 5 hours from that city.
Aim of the National Park is to protect and preserve litoral and sea's ecosystem, making sure the preservation of natural features and offering controlled opportunities for public, educational and scientifical use.
Various species of birds, should be sight in this area.
The National Park of Jericoacoara comprehend an area of 6.850 hectares, runs for all the lenght of Jericoacoara's beach, including municipalities of Jijoca and Cruz, where is extended the well-known beach of Preà, which represents 33% of his area.
Our villages are situated in the middle of it and guarantee an ecological journey to windsurf and kitesurf lovers but also to tourist who are looking for relax.
Today, Jericoacoara's beach offers to tourists various entertainment activities, and, in the last years, sports like windsurf and kitesurf make this beach one of the most requested places all around the world for those who love strong wind!
Kitesurf is practised above all on the beach of the near Preà, easily reachable by dune-buggies passing through the beach.
The bigger tourist's attraction is the walk to Pedra Furada, which represent the symbol of Jeri's beach and also of the country of Cearà. It is a huge stone arch made by the action of wind and waves during the centuries.
At the end of the afternoon, many tourists walk on the top of the Dune to watch the fascinating sunset
.
The well-known “Sunset Dune” is situated on the side of the village, and is distinguished from others because of his isolation and his height.
Jericoacoara offers a really enjoying nightlife, but for those who don’t like crazy nights, might result more fascinating observe the beautiful stars in the sky, especially when there is the full moon, and the show of the ocean lighted by moon rays make the place really enchanted.
